What to do:

Mersincik Port is the only sheltered anchorage between Knidos and Körmen. You can take a dip here.

What to do:

There are several good anchorages in Bördübet:

  • Preferred by campers, Amazon Creek on the north side is a serene spot where you can hike, paddleboard or do yoga.
  • The magical Büyük Çatı Bay on the south side is a must-see. Buy fresh fish from local fishermen or go for a walk in the woods.
  • Just to the east of Büyük Çatı, you will find Küçük Çatı. This small yet pretty bay is perfect for a day in nature.

 

  • Club Amazon at Amazon Creek offers shower, bar and restaurant services. Also has ice and water.

 

! It might be difficult to find a place in Küçük Çatı.

What to do:

This place is a chain of islands and coves. Here are some good anchorages:

  • Küfre Bay on the northeast side has a tropical atmosphere where you can fully enjoy the colors of nature. It is a good shelter but beware of southwest winds.
  • Uzun Liman is an inner lagoon on the east side. It is a very safe anchorage surrounded by pine trees.
  • Gökağaç in the southwest is also known as Bekar Bay. This is the smallest bay of the Seven Islands and is just like a pool.

 

  • You can prefer Küfre Bay or Uzun Liman for staying overnight.

 

! Gökağaç is not suitable for bigger yachts. Also it can be hard to find a place during high season.

What to do:

A favorite anchorage among sailors, Tuzla is a large bay and a good swimming spot.

 

  • There are 3 anchorages and various coves inside the bay. The most sheltered one is Fener Bay, which is located on the west side.

 

! Beware of the bees especially in the summer.

What to do:

Löngöz is another must-see spot. Swim in its pristine waters, fill your lungs with fresh air and marvel at Gökova’s unique beauty once again.

 

! Löngöz is a narrow bay and maneuvering can be difficult. Still mid-sized yachts can enter. Can get crowded during high season.

What to do:

Part of Değirmen Bükü (curves back up to the north east side), Okluk is a natural gem. Take long walks or dine at one of the authentic restaurants.

 

  • This bay has a very special meaning as Sadun Boro, the first Turk to sail across the globe, lived here. See the mermaid statue he donated to the bay at the northern entrance and salute the pine tree (marked #8) where he moored his yacht Kısmet.

Enjoy the alluring shades of nature and listen to the birds chirping.

This sheltered bay is perfect for those who seek tranquility. Delve into a good book or do yoga on board.

 

  • This pine-clad inlet was used as a shelter by British naval vessels during World War II.

  • Karacasöğüt is paradise on earth. Follow the hiking trails to enjoy its magnificent scenery from top.

  • This large bay is a very good shelter and has several spots for anchoring or mooring.

What to do:

  • Discover ruins of the ancient city of Kedreai which dates back to 6th century BC. Its theater is especially in good condition.
  • Watch the sunset and full moon.

 

  • Legend tells that Roman general Mark Antony brought sand here from Egypt to create a beach for his lover Cleopatra. Actually formed by geological processes, this oolitic sand is under protection today.

 

! Visit the island in early morning or late afternoon to avoid tripper boats.

! This is not a good place to stay overnight in harsh weather as you may be exposed to swells.

What to do:

Restaurants on Marmaris-Gökova highway offer delicious food. Keep in mind that they get really crowded on weekends.

 

  • The best sheltered part of Çamlı Harbor is Çanak Bay on the east side.
  • You can find ice and gas near the jetty.

What to do:

  • Swim in Azmak River’s cold, crystal clear waters and dine at one of the waterfront restaurants.
  • Watch the sunset or go for a walk in the woods.

  • Akyaka is the hub for windsurfers in Turkey.

  • Swim with the fishes, snorkel or paddleboard in crystal clear waters.

What to do:

  • Ören is built on the ancient city of Keramos. Be ready to come across Dorian, Roman or Byzantine ruins while you are strolling through town.
  • Dine at Güverte Restaurant and feel the laid-back spirit of Aegean villages.

 

  • Keramos is considered as the birthplace of the art of pottery.

 

! Not a good place to stay in harsh weather. Very deep for anchoring so make sure your anchor holds safely.

What to do:

  • Eat the famous (and very delicious!) çökertme kebabı.
  • Indulge in yummy seafood at one of the restaurants, which also deliver fresh village bread to yachts in the morning.
  • Watch the full moon and stars from the deck.

 

  • The best place to drop your anchor is the west cove.

 

! Çökertme is a popular stopover for yachts between Bodrum and Gökova so it can get crowded at the height of summer.

! There can be strong gusts on the east side where restaurants are located.

What to do:

  • One of the most important historical places in Bodrum, Kissebükü is registered as a first-degree archeological site. The acropolis, built on a hill overlooking the bay, is thought to be a Lelegian settlement. You can also see Byzantine ruins (church, bath, cistern) on the shore.
  • Don’t miss the statue dedicated to legendary Turkish sailor Sadun Boro.

 

  • Sailors call Kissebükü the Gate of Gökova.
  • You can anchor on the north west side if you want to stay overnight.

 

! May be exposed to swells if western winds prevail.

What to do:

Kargıcık Bükü is a fisherman’s bay. Buy fresh fish from the locals.

 

  • The best swimming spot is in the south of Sea Garden Resort, the northwest cove of Pabuç Burnu.

What to do:

The water is crystal clear. Dive or snorkel on the south side of the island. (When you dive facing the Gulf of Gökova, at 32-34 meters deep, there is a magnificent cave covered with purple sponges.)

What to do:

  • Kara Ada is a favorite spot among divers. Prefer its south coast or Delikli Cave (suitable for all levels) at the left end.
  • The island is also famous for its healing thermal springs and mud bath.

 

  • The south coast of the island is perfect for watching the full moon.
